3 sisters measurements

The area for the three sisters measure as:

Door square:5x5
door rectangle:10x2
butterfly garden: 7?x5

Ok The door is going to get 1 mound and I will add marigolds and maybe tomatoes to the area.

The other side will get 3 mounds.

The garden will get 3-4. 3 would probably look nicer and I could put tomatoes in the 4th area.

There isn't a whole lotta sun in some of these parts, but anywhere else the coons, deer and other wildlife will get everything.

Tip

Use top soil instead of redwood chips. The chips rot the roots and the topsoil is more ecofriendly and "looks great". Eric Stromer Home Improvement: DIY with Eric Stromer - AOL Home

Still need to...

  • give root growth to transplanted plants
  • move buttefly bush
  • plant 3 sisters corn
  • fix up to the right of back door
  • ask for ground cover
  • transplant coneflower?

Check

  • Found out online that it should be ok to transplant the butterfly bush as longa s I do it efore it starts growing.
  • bought the seeds
  • marigolds are not in yet, but I found lots of seeds from my plan t last year. Maybe I can use those.
  • got one hose sprayer, cheap one since I seem to lose them
  • got one water key
  • still looking for gardening gloves I like
  • transplanted 2/3 of the daisies
  • transplanted 7 hostas
  • gotta get rid of the hay still. Not sure where yet.

in addition I

  • Transplanted the front bush
  • took down the left over wild flowers and used them in transplanting and took some to the compost
  • moved the hollyhock

Great work this weekend!

  • buy hose stuff
  • buy water keys
  • buy gloves
  • transplant daisies
  • transplant hostas (hastas?)
  • lay hay somewhere

Fall plans in reality

I'm not sure a compost pile will work here because of the animals. I still need to do a little more investigating.

I did experiment with bulbs, but I didn't plant them in the fall as I should have...

English Iris Mixture

Pretty sure these have not chance of coming up. They looked pretty rotten. Trying them anyway in front near the daylillies. I planted these to lighten up a fairly dark area. I chose these for color around the daylilies before they bloom.

Ice princess tulip

A couple of these were starting to sprout so I have hope for them. Only planted 5. My guess is there will be foliage only from what I've read.

English bluebells

Planted quite a few of these in front where the hastas are, in front of the tulips. We'll see. I chose these because it says they bloom early and I'm hoping they will add color to the front of the cottage for Flag Day.

Red bulbs in the butterfly garden. I chose these because they are red and looked great in the magazine. Plus they will be next to the purple butterfly plants and my room is red and purple next to the garden now so it will be like an extension of my room! Sweet, if they bloom.

I saw the bush starting to come up so I might replant today.

I dug up some of the hastas, will replant today and probably give some to next door.

The Daisies are starting to pop so I will probably transplant some today. I think they are sensitive to transplanting and have only been there 1/2 summer so I'm going to research that one. Ok I did and Mom said they should be fine.

The coneflower is not up yet.

I will ask my other neighbor for some ground cover that i love.

I will put the roots on Ken's to do list.

Fall plans

-make a compost pile
-put a composter on your list for Christmas ConsumerReports.org - Compost bins 7/04: Garden, gardening, fertilizer.
-split and disperse hasta garden
-move some daisies and coneflower to the side
-propogate more ground cover?
-experiment with bulbs
-split up that bush in front for 2 plantings (find out if this is a good idea, the early bloomer with big fluffy pink blooms)
-get Ken to cut out the 2 huge roots
-decide on what to plant inbetween the windows (thoughts---that tall whispy purple stuff or the white shoots with spiky plants (where is my recall today) or investigate bushes)
